This past year has been difficult for many people, including senior citizens. Spend time with an elderly person who may be alone or in need of a friend.

Plant a tree or flowers as a memorial at home, school or your neighborhood park

A good way to honor the anniversary of 9/11/01 is to plant a hope tree in your garden at home, school or in a local park! After getting permission from your parent, guardian, school or Department of Parks and Recreation, purchase a small tree from your local plant nursery or have the Parks Department donate one.

Create

You can show your patriotism and honor the heros and victims of last year's tragedy by making a flag t-shirt. Make one for yourself and wear it, or get a group of your friends, teammates, or classmates together and you can all make and wear your one-of-a-kind flag t-shirts. OR, sell your t-shirts and donate the money to a local charity organization.

Assist at a blood drive

Hospitals and relief organizations always need blood donations. For children ages 8 years old and up: You can help by volunteering to help distribute forms and pass out cookies and drinks to people who need a little energy boost after they donate blood.
