Depression: What's the Problem?

Mayda

Girl crying Mayda spent a good part of yesterday crying. After school she struck out on the softball field, causing her team to lose an important game and her teammates got really ticked off at her. Then, just an hour later, she found out that her crush has been cracking jokes about her to other guys at school. Feeling overwhelmed, she went home, had a long cry, and spent a long time on the phone with her best friend Lucy talking about what an awful day it was.

This morning, Mayda wasn't sure she wanted to go to school, and considered faking a fever to stay home. But then she remembered that she had orchestra practice today, which she really enjoys, and that she should show her crush that his mean jokes can't really hurt her. Mayda's still feeling sad inside about everything that happened yesterday, but she feels like she'll be able to cope.

Is this:
A normal case of bad-day blues?
Or:
A case of serious clinical depression?
