This is the grave of the Amazidla, the name for the village's first chief. The grave is part of the kraal (or ceremonial yard) where only initiated men are allowed.

This kraal is a special area where only grown-ups can go. Young people are grown up after they have reached certain age, and gone through special training and ceremonies at a place called the Veldt school.

This girl is dancing a traditional dance. Her multi-layered skirt is part of the traditional dress of the Ndebele.

People here like to remember the traditions of their ancestors. That is why they paint their homes so brightly, and participate in special ceremonies. One of the annual celebration times is at the beginning and the end of the Veldt school term. This is a special training school, and initiation period for young men and women when the graduate to adulthood.
