Supplies

  • Baking cups, candy size (optional)
  • Cellophane bags (optional, for giving away)
  • Cooking pot
  • Cutting board and knife
  • Double boiler (optional)
  • Heavy paper (optional
  • Hole punch (optional)
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Wood skewer

Directions

Forget about buying chocolate covered strawberries for your Valentine! These sweet, homemade Valentine’s pops make a great gift for friends or a delightful tray of fancy fruit to share with your favorite sweetheart! Top them with a heart shaped paper message to make them ultra special, or you can wrap them in cellophane bags to give away to friends and show that you care.

  1. Washing and dry strawberries.
  2. Cut the tip of each strawberry flat, so that it will stand up, with the stem on top.
  3. Make a hole with a skewer in the center of each strawberry stem to put the lollipop stick in, set aside.
  4. Melt the chocolate chips using a double boiler. They can also be melted on a low setting on the stovetop or in the microwave. Stir frequently to remove lumps. (Tip: Milk and dark chocolate chips tend to melt smoother than white chocolate chips. Use candy craft melts as an alternative for drizzling the chocolate with a splash of red or pink.)
  5. Dip the strawberries in the metled chocolate. Let stand on baking sheet covered with wax paper.
  6. Cool the strawberries, until the chocolate is firm, by refrigerating for a few minutes.
  7. Once firm, lay the strawberries on their sides and use the end of a spoon to drizzle with contrasting color chocolate or brightly colored craft melts.
  8. Top with sprinkles (optional).
  9. Re-chill then put in cellophane bags if giving away, or on a lovely tray to serve.
  10. Top the pop sticks with your homemade Valentine messages cut from card stock and decorated (optional).
