“The Many Adventures of Mr. Mailman” is an original
interstitial series, produced exclusively by PBS KIDS Sprout.

Sprout’s goal is to create a conceptual link for children between their ‘home’ and the 'world beyond.' Through this series, we introduce preschoolers to the concept of travel, new places, and the idea of communication between one's self and another person. Through the magic of digital still photography, playful graphics and children - a live action element - our viewers are taken on an exciting adventure.

We know that the essence of ‘connection’ for children is critical. Preschoolers are drawn to the idea of sending a message and getting a reply. This process contributes to their rapidly increasing use of language and their intense need to use language as a means of communication and a means of learning about the world. Additionally, the series will contribute to a young child’s understanding of geography – a subject that is frequently cited by educators as a necessary tool for success in school and in life.

Each interstitial episode includes a live action sequence, as children ask Mr. Mailman to deliver mail to either a family member, or a friend, in another location. This request sets into motion Mr. Mailman’s journey to this desired destination. Through creative execution and ‘fun facts,’ kids learn about the places on Mr. Mailman’s itinerary. From Hawaii to Florida, “The Many Adventures of Mr. Mailman” combines reality with age-appropriate fantasy.

Kids will be able to connect with Mr. Mailman through this website, where they can watch videos, play games, and get other information relevant to his journeys. Children can track his many adventures and participate by creating their own Sprout Passports and interactive materials like a personalized Official Travel Club Certificate. With the On the Road Kit, PBS KIDS Sprout also encourages shared experiences and adventures for Sproutlets and grown-ups alike.

In sum, this series is built upon the intrinsic appeal that using the mail as a means of communication is an exciting experience for young children.
