Get Advice from IML Tweens
IML Quick Discussion Guide: September 11th

Prior to using this Quick Discussion Guide, you and your child may want to do any or all of the following activities on "It's My Life":

  • Read the "September 11th" article.

  • Work together to come up with a "You Said It" submission for this topic. Please note: there are two questions for children to submit comments to, located on the first and second pages of the section, respectively.

  • Print out the IML Journal page "September 11th." Complete it together or encourage your child to complete it on his/her own.

Discussion Questions:

  • What have you been feeling lately about the attacks and the ongoing events connected with them?

  • What have you heard or seen lately that's related to September 11th? Where did you get your information? (Other kids on the playground? TV? Internet? Teacher?)

  • How has what you heard made you feel? Do you have any questions about it?

  • Has anything you've heard about the news made you upset? Do you have questions about how the news covers all the issues related to September 11th?

  • How do you hope all these issues will play out in the future?

  • Have you seen anyone being bullied because of their race or ethnic background? What happened? What did you do? What could have been done differently?

  • What can we do as a family to help out more in our community?

  • What's changed for the better in your life since September 11th? What's changed for our family? Your school? Our country?

  • What have you learned about yourself since September 11th?
