Discussion questions for kids to bring up with adults
When you get married again, are we going to move to a new house? Am I going to have to share my room a sibling or stepsibling? What should I call these new people? Are you still going to love me as much now that you’re putting time and energy into this new relationship? Are we still going to be able to have special time together? Do you think my other parent will still love me if I like this new person? Will my stepparent be nicer to his/her own children than to me? Is he/she going to look out for my best interests and care for me like he/she would for his/her own kids? Is my stepparent going to be allowed to make rules and discipline me like you do? Is this stepparent going to leave us, too? After all, you’ve already been through one marriage and several other relationships. How can my stepparent and I get to know each other better? What do you see that we have in common? How can I be involved in your wedding? Do you think you might have a new baby in the future? What happens if you do? Can we hold family meetings every week or every month so that we can work out any problems that come up?
