--Haley, 12

“I have seen and been around all kinds of drugs. For example weed, meth, and lots more. It is getting really easy for kids my age to get almost any of kinds of drug that they want. It is also getting easier for kids my age to get ahold of alcohol and cigarettes.”
--Megan, 13

“I think it’s bad and kids shouldn’t do drugs.”
--Jasser

--Becky, 11

--Sean

"I would like to know what happens in your body (chemically; what kind of hormones and endorphins and other stuff are secreted in your body when using drugs). I also want to know how physical activities like sports compare to drugs. Does it give you the same 'high'?"
--Angelique

"You know smoking crack and stuff is so stupid. Your friends and stuff think it is so cool. You don't want to listen to that. I mean drugs mess up your body. PLEASE LISTEN. DON'T DO DRUGS."
--Angie, 13

"I've seen magazines that said smoking is glamorous. That is kinda stupid because the people who do it end up dead earlier."
--Yvonne, 12

"I think that drugs are wrong and I believe no one should be on them. Help me ban drugs! I need all the help I can get."
--Katie

“I go to an ‘inner-city’ school and marijuana is a big thing there. I do not use drugs because I've been on Principal's List all year and I don't want to change that.”
--Shanetta

“Some people may have heard this before but I'm in sixth grade and I have to ride the bus to school with high-schoolers in the morning, and they are constantly joking about how ‘high’ they got the other day or how some person is such a reject just because they don't do drugs too. I don't feel at all pressured considering that they're all delinquents anyway (this one has streaked red and orange and black hair...lol!) and I NEVER want to be anything like them!”
--Rachel, 12

“I would never do drugs because I respect my body and don’t want to damage it for something like doing drugs. I read all the horror stories on drugs and magazines and I think, ‘That’s never going to be me.’”
--Andrea, 12

“I've seen my crush do drugs and I was really mad. I got very embarrassed because that was the first time someone saw him and they started to tease me about it, but they really didn't mean it. When I saw him after that, I told him that I had seen him and he got scared because he thought that I would tell his parents, but I didn't because I love him so much and didn't want to upset him.”
--Jesmin, 13

“I'm in 5th grade and just finished the DARE program which teaches me how to stay drug-free and violence-free. I've heard about drugs called, cigars, cigarettes, steroids, cocaine, marijuana, alcohol and stimulants, but I've never seen people do them.”
--Kishan, 10

“We have seen a lot of people take drugs. There was this one kid and he acted crazy in the lunch room one day and now he’s expelled. Some other kids got suspended for taking some pills that didn't even work.”
--Sam and Brittany, 13

“My grandma smokes. I tell her to stop but she won’t.”
--Riley

“This one boy in my school smoked marijuana. I could smell it on him and he was one of my crushes!!”
--Kristan, 10

“I see many ‘druggies’ standing here and there. I don't typically see them using any drug except cigarettes. I mainly see males (gangsta types) doing them. They have pimple covered faces and wrinkles in their skin. I always see some very pretty girls standing with them. I just don't see what those girls see in those guys. They are ruining their lives and the lives of others.:D”
--Ekta, 13

“Both of my uncles smoke and sometimes when they come over to our house to visit they bring along cigarettes and smell the house up. I should not leave out that they are both alcoholics too. My question is, are people who smoke likely to drink too?”
--Ogweno, 13

“I think kids should not do drugs. A boy in my school does drugs. He is 13. I told him he should not do them. I said, ‘They are killing you.’ He does not listen to me at all. He is a nice boy too.”
--Sarah, 13

“The only drug that I have seen people use is pot. There was this lady downstairs from me and she did crack and her daughter and her boyfriend were living with her. Now her daughter is in trouble and she chose her boyfriend over her daughter. That is not right and if she really loved her daughter she would get clean. The people in the world that do drugs should know that it will kill them eventually, so why even do it? I have learned a lot about drugs and none of it is good. I want to grow up and have a nice education and a job and a family. Don't let people drag you down with them by saying, ‘OH, TRY THIS, IT WON'T HURT YOU’ but it really does. The only thing I have to say is, don't get into drugs.”
--Desiree, 11

“Outside of my school one day, 3 girls had lighters. I’m sorta nosy so I decided to check it out. When I got to where they were, I smelled smoke. They asked me if I wanted some and I said no thanks.”
--Ivory, 10

“Never do drugs THEY R STUPID!!!”
--Delaney

“We had a play at school that was about drugs. I know lots of types of drugs like cigarettes, alcohol and tablets/medicines. I know what drugs can do to you because we learned to not take drugs. I don’t want take any drugs. My mum smokes cigarettes. I want to know how to stop her. She's tried lollipops so she doesn’t crave them. What else shall I do to help her?”
--Hope, 9

“I have never seen it, but something like that happened once. I used to live in an apartment with all my family. My brother wanted to go outside and play but he didn’t go out to play, he went out to smoke. My mom was really worried about my brother because he didn’t come home until the later that day. My mom asked him where he went and my brother just said outside. I wanted to cry because my mom was crying too. Then my brother told my mom that he was smoking and my mom got mad.”
--Karina, 12

”I go to a Prep High school in New England. Almost everyone drinks and smokes weed. However, recently I saw kids doing cocaine. It scared me how widespread it was.”
--Mike

“I'm in 6th grade and a lot of people I know in middle school take drugs. One of my best friends drinks wine. Last year in 5th grade we took a program about drug abuse and I learned a lot. No one from my elementary school last year I know of takes drugs. I think it shows a lot about the people’s families who take drugs. The other week on field day, this one kid said he had marijuana and offered it to my friend thinking he would be cooler and he got suspended. Everyone thinks he's an idiot. Everyone called him that.”
--Michelle, 11

“I was at my beach club with my friend & a lifeguard that she knew was on her break and she started smoking. My friend’s friend asked for the cigarette and started coughing. It was the first time she smoked and she was only 12 years old. I thought she was pretty stupid after that. Don’t ruin your life. It is not cool!”
--Vic, 11

“I don’t get why people do drugs. I really want all drugs to be illegal. What do I do? My bff smokes cigs.”
--Alyssa, 13

“When my uncle was only 17, he didn't graduate from high school because he did drugs and got bad grades. He dropped out of school.”
--Katie, 12

“I think it’s bad, but I don't think they care. The only people in my family that do drugs (smoking) are my grandma, my godmother, and my grandma's roommate. I really wish they didn't do them. I do, really! Plus I'm not supposed to be around smoke because I have asthma. If I'm around smoke, then it can cause me to have an asthma attack. Gotta go! See Ya!”
--Arielle, 10

“I've seen weed, crack, ecstasy, and they’re not even cool to use. I mean I've never tried drugs, but it’s not cool and it’s very bad for your health.”
--Cassie, 12

“I've seen a lot of people smoking. I think it’s disgusting and it smells too.”
--Maryanne, 10

“I've seen cigarettes around my school. It's really freaky because it's all the popular people that smoke them. It's totally gross!!!”
--Tanya, 12

“I haven't seen too much drug use around. I'm in the 6th grade so I see a lot of smoking cigarettes. My friend thought it would be cool to smoke and she thought it would make her popular. So, she asked her parents for extra allowance and she went out and bought a pack of cigarettes behind her parent’s back. Turns out that she got really sick and it didn't make her popular. It just goes to show you that just doing something as simple as smoking one little cigarette can lead to a lot of trouble.”
--Dina, 12

“I really don't understand it. My grandma smokes and I worry about her. One of my best friends came from a school where the kids in 4th grade smoked and drank. It really bothers me. One of her friends was in the hospital and the nurses gave her cigarettes!! She quit though. I'm really worried about it (drug abuse) because it's really beginning to be a problem. I found out that the average age to start drinking is age 12!!”
--Tyler, 11

“I am in the 7th grade and I have seen people at my school buy and sell marijuana. A lot of people smoke it. They talk about it like it’s no big deal. These people just happen to be my friends.”
--Jocelyn, 13

“I’ve seen my family member using drugs and it was scary, but now she doesn’t do drugs and it’s a relief.”
--Gemma, 12

“I have never really seen anybody use drugs, but something like that happened once. I used to live in an apartment building. My dad was seeing this guy to get some of this medicine to help his back. Me and my older sister Shana saw my dad come out with money and come back with nothing. Her and I were a little curious after that but then the day before my dad’s birthday, my mom left for work. My dad stayed home and a guy came knocking on the door (he was one of my dad’s friends). I tried to get my dad up before I answered the door but he would not wake up. I thought he was sleeping because he was tired and not getting a lot of sleep lately. Then the phone rang. It was my older sister Shana. I told her there was some guy at the door and my dad would not wake up. She said to call my grandma so I did. She said it was nothing serious, but it was. I called my mom at work and she said she would come home. She tried to get him up but he wouldn’t, so we called the police and hospital. They came and took my dad and I went with them and before I knew it, he was dead. He died I guess from an overdose or at least that was what they said. There’s my life story.”
--Karen, 10

“I hate drugs. They are dumb and they mess with kids’ heads. Why do people sell them? I mean, you can have a perfectly good job like a coach for sports or a business person.”
--Alice, 11

“I have seen all kinds of drugs change hands at school and on the street.”
--Karen, 13

“I think that it’s some bad stuff. People shouldn't take them or do bad stuff. Thank you ladies and gentlemen!”
--Patrick

“I haven't seen anyone use drugs around me, but I have heard about it and I don't want to do it.”
--Brittany, 11

“My grandfather smokes cigarettes and I see people smoke dope and pot all the time. My grandfather also drinks beer. I think it is stupid to take drugs because you can't play sports, have certain jobs and all they do is make you unhealthy.”
--Tori, 11

“I am not going to tell you if I have experienced it. I know that you might know by nowbut my mom has done it a lot, but she is getting help.”
--Malecia, 12

“I suggest that all of you that do drugs should stop because it's really bad for your heart if you do drugs. You can also get asthma or get cancer.”
--Carla, 9

“I have used marijuana and I felt sorry for it. I showed it to who I thought was my best friend. He went to tell the school vice-principal. My dad uses it for cancer. It helps him a little but he can’t stop using it.”
--Sabrina, 13

"I’ve used drugs once. It’s not good. It was the worst choice I’ve ever made in my life. If you ever even think about using drugs, DON'T.”
--Rachel, 12

“My sisters are in seventh grade and some of them smoke. When school is out, they hang around the outside of the school grounds, smoke and spit on anything they can find, even each other. I think smoking makes them so weird, but they could have just been born like that!”
--Julia, 11

“Once I saw a guy using cocaine! I thought, oh my, what the heck is he doing???!!!! People haven't seen him since!”
--Martha, 8

“I have seen a lot of drug bags and all, but I have never touched one. I would never do drugs. It screws up your life. I want to get to college. I want to get my driver’s license but I don’t want to be in my grave by the time I am 16! If you suspect that anyone is taking drugs, talk to them, because it’s a long hard journey for people who have a drug addiction to get straightened up. I know that for a fact.”
--Leighanna, 11

“Some people in my family smoke. I've heard all the things it does to your body. It’s terrible. If anyone in your family is smoking or does drugs, tell them they need to stop or even try to get them to quit.”
--Zoey, 10
